Chunky peri-peri houmous

If you get a little peckish during the day, houmous is a great snack to keep up your sleeve. It takes minutes to make and is much better for you than shop-bought, which is packed with salt and sugar.

The great thing about houmous is you can experiment with different flavours. This particular one uses Nando’s Peri-Peri sauce, but you could substitute something else (like a red pepper) if you don’t like your houmous to have a kick!

What you need:

  • 1 x 400g chickpeas (save half of the liquid from the can and save a few chickpeas for decoration)
  • 2 tbsp tahini
  • 1 garlic clove (crushed)
  • 3 tbsp olive oil
  • 2 tbsp Nando’s Peri-Peri sauce (I use medium)
  • Lemon juice

Stick it all together in your blender. And that’s it! I like my houmous chunky and find that 10-15 seconds is enough. If you prefer it smooth, add a little water and blend for longer.

Pop into an airtight lunch box to take to work or if you’re serving it, put it into a bowl and drizzle with more olive oil and peri-peri sauce before adding the remaining chickpeas on top.

    Sounds yummy! I like to make my own too, when I’m not being lazy! I like to add fresh basil or coriander. You’ve inspired me to try that tho! X
