I recently had the pleasure of trying the succulent steak on offer at Flat Iron, Henrietta Street.
The restaurant itself has a cool, trendy vibe, whilst still being really relaxed and laid-back. We were seated on one of the long, weathered wooden benches and took a look over the menu while we nibbled on popcorn (you know a place is going to be great when you get free popcorn!)
If you know anything about Flat Iron, you will know that the menu consists of basically one thing – steak. Not only steak, but really Instagrammable steak. (Oh, and a cool knife.)
As the standard Flat Iron steak is just a snip at £10, we went wild and ordered the sirloin sharer (still only £35!), which was a special on that particular day. Apart from being aesthetically pleasing, the meat itself was serious melt in the mouth, medium rare joy that you don’t always get with steak. In fact, my only complaint was that I hardly needed to use my funky knife *sob*.
Although it came with a house leaf salad, we obviously needed to try all the sides. We ordered the dripping cooked chips, roast aubergine with tomato, basil and parmesan (which I am actually going to recreate at home as it was so good) and creamed spinach, topped off with the peppercorn sauce to drizzle on our sirloin.
All in all, a fabulous feast!
Just when we thought it was all over, the final flourish was a free salted caramel ice cream cone complete with chocolate shavings that you collect on your way out. Free ice cream?! Thanks Flat Iron, I’ll be back.
