Welcome to my January round-up! I’m going to do a round-up post at the end of each month, talking about all the bits and pieces I’ve been up to, things I’ve bought, cooked, new discoveries I’ve made or little triumphs I’ve had that month.
I got the idea of doing a monthly round-up during our new year break in Somerset. We were away with a group of friends and found ourselves talking about 2016 – things we’d done and what we’d achieved. When you really think about it, there’s a lot worth remembering! It’s really satisfying thinking back about what you’ve done (big or small), so I thought I’d do it monthly.
It was like fate when I came across this little book when I was in Joy in Clapham:
This book – One line a day – is a five-year memory book. It starts on 1 January and has a space every day to write a few words or a sentence about that day. I bought myself a copy and a spare copy to giveaway to someone who’d like to do the same thing. I’m going to run the competition on my Twitter from today until Tuesday, so make sure you find me (@charlie_bloggs) to enter!
So what’s made it into my January round-up?
Brunch at Juliet’s
My triumph this month was discovering Juliet’s in Tunbridge Wells. Juliet’s is a cute independent café that serves a serious brunch. I had smashed avocado on toasted pumpernickel bread with feta and bacon, sprinkled with alfalfa shoots and a green juice. This photo doesn’t do it justice.
I treated myself to a new blusher from Bare Minerals. I haven’t bought a new blusher for ages, I don’t really know why. I’m so happy with what I got – The Aphrodisiac – a peachy colour with a really good highlight pigment. My other blushers from Bare Minerals are all the loose powder ones, but this is from the Ready range, which is pressed. I hope it lasts as long as the loose ones.
Living room décor
After finishing all our decorating before Christmas, we’re at a stage where we can start buying more decorative (fun) stuff for our house. We chose this selection of grey, cream and yellow cushions from Next and they make me feel happy whenever I walk into our living room.
January is usually a quiet month for everyone, but I somehow managed to pack loads in! I went to see Sister Act, which was one of my Christmas presents, I had a lovely day out in Brighton to celebrate a birthday and caught up with a friend over cake at the Tea House in Reigate. I went to Clapham for drinks and nibbles and went out for dinner with the girls from work before one of them went on maternity leave. I’ll also be celebrating the 30th birthday of a very special friend before the month is over.
Who says January has to be dull?
Let me know what you’ve been up to this month and don’t forget to enter on Twitter to win a One line a day memory book to keep track of those memories.
